  • Voters overwhelmingly passed Measure ULA in November 2022 to fund real solutions to L.A.’s housing and homelessness crises. The measure was written and designed by nonprofit community experts who do this work every single day. Now, as the City implements ULA, we expect them to follow the community’s lead. • 41.18 does not solve homelessness, it just pushes the homeless off the sidewalk and moves them around the city. Being homeless is not a crime, and we condemn any laws set up to criminalize the poor. It’s time to repeal 41.18 and replace it with stable offers of housing and social services.

  • TOPA would create new rights for tenants, giving them the first opportunity to buy the building they live in if and when the building owner decides to sell. This strong, proven strategy will help us decommodify housing, convert tenants into owners, and wrestle back power from corporate interests back into our neighborhoods. Learn about how TOPA has worked in other cities across the country here.

  • City Councilors have significant power in land use and development decisions. In the most extreme examples, we’ve seen the corruption that results from cozy relationships between councilors and real estate developers. Housing justice candidates cannot be beholden to real estate interests and must not take their campaign contributions. Any candidate that signs our pledge is also expected to return any such contributions they’ve already received.
